Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced yesterday that Libyan technical teams at Sirte Oil Company for Production and Manufacturing of Oil and Gas have completed the drilling of the first horizontal well in the Al-Lahib-Dur Murada field (T27-13).
The well achieved an initial production rate of 1,870 barrels per day.
The NOC said this step represents a significant technological shift in the development of the Al-Waha-Bahi/Gargaf reservoir, reflecting the company’s ability to move to more advanced stages in managing and developing complex reservoirs.
This operation involved drilling a 350-foot horizontal section within the reservoir using advanced directional drilling techniques. This enabled maximizing contact with the producing layers and achieving optimal reservoir energy utilization, resulting in a stable natural flow of dry light oil with a density of 61 degrees.
The NOC said the well’s production rate of 1,870 barrels per day with a wellhead flow pressure of 1,475 psi are production indicators that exceeded expectations and enhance the prospects for increasing the reservoir’s recovery factor.
Libyan cadres making progress
The NOC said this success reflects the ability of Libyan personnel in the oil sector to make progress and keep pace with development and translates the skills of the sector’s users to achieve professional independence, whenever the capabilities for that are available to them.
