The Attorney General’s Office reported last Tuesday (17 February) that the Tripoli Criminal Court convicted five Waha Bank employees for LD 131 millioncorruption.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office accused eight employees of Al-Waha Bank of carrying out banking transactions that resulted in damage to public funds and enabled others to obtain illicit financial gains. This was due to the granting of credit facilities in violation of the rules and regulations governing banking credit.
The first defendant was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to repay 87.8 million dinars, with the permanent deprivation of his civil rights.
The court sentenced the second and third defendants to eight years and one month in prison each, and the fourth and fifth defendants to five years each. Both defendants, along with the second and third defendants, were ordered to repay 43.9 million dinars. All four were deprived of their civil rights for the duration of their sentences and for one year thereafter.
The court acquitted three defendants of the charges against them; and the court exempted all those convicted from criminal expenses.
