The Tripoli based Ministry of Transport announced today that the UK government has agreed to receive the black box of the crashed aircraft and analyse its audio and video data according to established international standards.
This is in reference to the aircraft that crashed in Ankara killing the Western Libya’s Chief of Staffs and his accompanying delegation on board.
Here is the complete statement by Tripoli’s Transport Ministry:
‘‘From the very first moments of the tragic accident that claimed the lives of our martyrs, the Government of National Unity, under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, closely monitored the incident. The government affirmed its full commitment to uncovering the circumstances of the accident and determining its true causes, ensuring the highest levels of transparency and professionalism, and respecting the right of the families of the martyrs and the public to know.
In this context, the Prime Minister directed the relevant authorities to take all necessary urgent measures, provide full support to the investigation, guarantee its independence and impartiality, and coordinate with relevant international partners, all in the interest of civil aviation safety and to enhance confidence in the investigation’s findings.
Based on these directives, the Ministry of Transportation followed up on the various stages of information gathering and investigation from the very first hours of the incident.
It participated in the initial investigations in coordination with the relevant authorities responsible for civil aviation safety and security, and in cooperation with the competent Turkish authorities and delegations from the concerned countries, providing all available facilities and information related to the circumstances of the incident from both the Libyan and Turkish sides.
To ensure the highest levels of technical integrity and professional impartiality in the investigation, the Libyan and Turkish sides agreed to send the aircraft’s black box to a neutral country. Following the German authorities’ inability to undertake this task, the United Kingdom was chosen as a neutral and reliable entity. The Ministry of Transport announces that the UK government has agreed to receive the black box of the crashed aircraft and analyze its audio and video data according to established international standards.
In this context, the Minister of Transport received the British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, to discuss the technical and procedural aspects of transferring and analysing the black box, ensuring the swift and accurate completion of this task.
Direct coordination also took place between the Minister of Transport and the Turkish Minister of Transport, Abdulkadir Ural, within the framework of ongoing cooperation between the two sides on this matter, supporting the joint investigation and contributing to determining the true causes of the accident.
The Government of National Unity affirms that these steps are part of a clear professional process aimed at uncovering the whole truth and will keep the public informed of all developments transparently and responsibly as soon as the final results are available’’.
