(GNU).

Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, met with Faisal Bin Dardaf, Director of the National Housing and Urban Development Programme, to review the latest developments in the programme’s progress, including completed works and ongoing projects within the reconstruction plan.

The meeting, held at the Cabinet Office in Tripoli, also addressed the advanced steps taken in the agreement between the programme and the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) regarding securing appropriate funding for the Prime Minister’s initiative to build 150,000 housing units, along with other procedures and understandings between the two parties.

Aldabaiba directed all relevant government entities to fully cooperate with the programme’s management and to work towards removing obstacles and procedures hindering its operations. This will enable the creation of a suitable environment for finalizing implementation plans and commencing the targeted housing projects, the Tripoli government reported.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of expediting the ongoing arrangements with the CBL to secure the necessary funding for the “Prime Minister’s Initiative” to complete and construct 150,000 housing units. He affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting this initiative and providing the guarantees necessary for its launch according to schedule, considering it one of the most important housing and development projects in the country.

It will be recalled that in July this year, the Governor of the CBL, Naji Issa, speaking at the workshop entitled “The Role of the Banking Sector in Revitalizing Stalled Housing Projects and Urban Development”, organised by the Central Bank of Libya in cooperation with the Tripoli based Libyan government, offered to invest LD 3 to 5 billion every year in the construction of housing.

At the same workshop, the Tripoli government had revealed that 150,000 housing units are to be completed between 2025 and 2030.
