Economy Minister Hwej reviews his ministry’s implementation of its 2023 plan and issues several directives

‎The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, met last Tuesday (17 December), the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Libya, Liu Jian. The meeting was held in the presence of the Director of the Internal Trade Department at the Ministry, Ezzedine Mosaddeq, the Chairman of the Libyan Chinese Joint Chamber from the Libyan side, Naim Abdullah, and several members of the Joint Chamber.‎

‎Developing partnership between both private sectors
The meeting discussed aspects of trade and investment cooperation, and the work programme of the Joint Chamber of Commerce to develop partnership between the private sectors in both countries. The meeting also touched on the difficulties and obstacles facing Libyan companies and business owners dealing in China.‎

‎Encourage Chinese companies to enter Libya
During the meeting, the Minister stressed the importance of supporting the private sector, which is a pillar for the development and diversification of the Libyan economy and working to provide all necessary facilities for Libyan companies and investors dealing with China. He called on the Chinese side to encourage Chinese companies to enter the Libyan market, and to enhance their activity with the Libyan Chambers of Commerce and business owners to identify promising investment opportunities in various sectors.‎

‎China keen to increase trade and investment with Libya
In turn, the Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy stressed his country’s keenness to raise the level of trade and investment cooperation with Libya. He noted that many Chinese companies want to resume their projects, in addition to participating in the implementation of new projects aimed at developing infrastructure and other investment in the energy, construction and other sectors. He stressed that the embassy would work to facilitate procedures related to companies and business owners in coordination between the competent authorities in the two countries.‎

‎Joint business forums to be organised in both countries
At the end of the meeting, the Minister directed the preparation of a joint work programme to organise the Libyan Businessmen’s Forum in the Chinese arena, and an accompanying exhibition to be held in Tripoli and Beijing. These are to be held in coordination with the General Authority for Exhibitions and the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, within the framework of strengthening the bilateral partnership between chambers of commerce and business owners in both countries.‎
