GECOL says all eastern power stations ready to operate

In an exclusive interview with Libya Herald, the Media Spokesman for the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), Weam Al-Tayeb, confirmed that the Korean company Hyundai has returned and resumed work on the new 1,400 megawatts Tripoli West steam power station project.

Al-Tayeb said that the Chairman of GECOL, Mohamed Al-Mashay, met with the representative of Hyundai and the director of the project to establish the Tripoli West Steam Station, in the presence of the directors of the relevant departments in GECOL. The meeting discussed the importance of resuming work on the project, which is almost complete, and link it to the general network to meet the increasing demand for electricity in Libya.

GECOL able to complete all its projects
Al-Tayeb pointed out the ability of the GECOL to complete all its projects, including establishing new power stations and carrying out urgent and major maintenance, in addition to completing the connection of electrical stations via power transmission lines to the electrical network to meet the increasing demand for electrical energy throughout the country, especially during the upcoming winter peak.

Record power production in 2023 summer peak
He stressed that the electricity sector achieved record production during the 2023 summer peak and clearly overcame the programmed load shedding that was adopted during the past years due to the shortage in electricity generation, especially during the summer and winter peaks. The sector also overcame the halt of most development and modernization projects for the components of the electrical network due to unstable conditions.

All GECOL projects have resumed being implemented by several foreign companies
Al-Tayeb highlighted the resumption of work in all projects of the GECOL and the return of several foreign companies from Turkey, Italy, Egypt, Greece, Germany and America to implement several projects to generate electrical energy through traditional stations or through solar energy.
