The Chairman and Director General of the Libyan Italian Chamber of Commerce, accompanied by the Italian Consul in Benghazi, Francesco Saverio De Luigi, made a working visit to the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture yesterday.

The visit was to support and enhance joint work opportunities in the economic fields, organize exhibitions, conferences and forums, and learn about the investment opportunities available within the city of Benghazi.

Seeking to strengthen relations
In an exclusive interview with Libya Herald, the Director General of the Libyan Italian Chamber, Mahmoud Nadim, said that the direct goal of visiting the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce and holding a meeting with its management comes within the main objectives adopted by the Libyan-Italian Chamber, the most important of which is strengthening relations with chambers of commerce inside Libya and linking relations between Libyan businessmen and women affiliated with businessmen and women in Italy to discover joint investment opportunities in the two countries, establish joint trade relations, and increase the volume of economic cooperation and trade exchange.

Increased reciprocal visits
Nadim referred to discussing the problems and difficulties facing the development of trade relations between Libya and Italy and the obstacles facing businessmen and women that limit raising the level of trade exchange. Therefore, visits will be exchanged between the Libyan and Italian sides to the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, as well as to the Italian Chambers of Commerce to transfer expertise and successful experiences to institutions and companies between the two countries.

Libya’s first trading partner
Nadim noted the continuation of the Libyan Italian Chamber of Commerce in performing its duties in cooperation with the Italian Embassy (Tripoli) and Consulate in Benghazi to bring views closer between the two sides so that Italy becomes the first trading partner of Libya, given the strength and age of relations between the two countries.

Italy a strategic partner
This is especially pertinent, he added, since Italy enjoys great economic advantages that are compatible with the Libyan economy that are not available to the rest of the other commercial partners. Additionally, Libya enjoys a strategic partnership with Italy in investment areas within Italy, as well as the presence of several Italian companies inside Libya within infrastructure projects, including Tripoli International Airport project, as well as in oil and gas projects.
