Tripoli, 9 September:

The  Pakistani Embassy held a reception on the eve of 6 September at Tripoli’s Corinthia Hotel to commemorate the . . .[restrict]“Defence of Pakistan Day”. It was attended by senior Libyan government and military officials as well as a number of foreign ambassadors and defence attachés and members of the local Pakistani community.

In a speech, the Pakistani defence attaché highlighted the importance of the day, which commemorates events in the 1965 India-Pakistan war, and stated the resolve of the military as well as the people of Pakistan to fight “the ugly and dark forces of terrorism which confront Pakistan today”. Whatever the cost, he said, they would not let “anyone threaten the existence of Pakistan as a moderate, tolerant and peaceful nation”. He hoped Pakistan’s allies and friends understood his country’s problems and would join hands with them to root out  “terrorism that poses a grave threat to almost the entire world”. [/restrict]
