Wings Engineering Company continues the work of installing solar-powered street lights for the mountain road leading to the city of Al-Rajban. The project will contribute to lighting the road continuously without interruption.
Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald, the mayor of the Municipality of Al-Rajban, Othman Al-Shaabani, said the use of solar powered street lighting will be gradually rolled out on all roads leading to the centre of the municipality, as well as its internal streets and public facilities, according to the available material capabilities.
Municipality has prepared a clean energy plan
Al-Shaabani explained that his municipality has prepared a plan to adopt clean energy in the entire municipality, especially in its public facilities. This is a contribution from the municipality in the use of renewable energies to reduce the use of electric energy generated from liquid fuels, which causes severe damage to the environment, and to mitigate overloads that caused frequent electricity cuts over the past years.
Use of solar power a strategic option
He stressed that his municipality is seeking to generalize the use of solar energy in mosques and at a future stage in homes if sufficient support is available from public authorities and the private sector. The mayor said he considered the project to use solar energy more broadly as a strategic option that has great economic and environmental benefits and reflects positively on the lives of people in the municipality.
Call for government support
Al-Shaabani called on the government to support such projects that reduce public spending on electricity in the long term and contribute to stopping the consumption of large quantities of oil in traditional power plants. He said he wished all the municipalities surrounding the municipality of Al-Rajban to adopt solar energy as a permanent alternative to electricity generated from fossil fuels, which will provide permanent electricity without interruption.
