The Executive Director of the Zawia Technological Industrial Pole, Abdullatef Al-Gadi, and his Deputy, visited the Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) in Misrata on Monday.
Al-Gadi reported that the visit was to create partnership and cooperation between the two institutions under the framework of the Ministry of Industry, and to activate research and development programmes between the two.
The Zawia Technological Industrial Park also sought to support industrial innovation and benefit from the experiences of LISCO. Future cooperation to open a branch in Misrata, and in other cities, of the Technological Industrial Pole, were also discussed.
Technological and Industrial parks law passed in 2022
It will be recalled that in November 2022 the Tripoli based Aldabaiba Libyan government passed law (948/2022) for the establishment of technology and industry parks/zones.
The new entity will have a separate legal and financial status under the Ministry of Industry and Mining. Its headquarters will be in the Industrial Zone in the city of Zawia.
The law stipulates, amongst others, that the new entity provides a space and an ecosystem that encourages technological and industrial enterprise and innovation for both local and international companies.
It should encourage scientific research through universities and institutes and PPP and transfer of knowledge to local industrial companies. The new entity should also incubate innovators, start-ups, and SMEs to convert their ideas into projects.
It should also make proposals for national industrial and technological policies and strategies.
