With the reopening of the Coastal Road last Friday, express bus services to eastern Libya can now take the normal shorter route (Graphics: General Company for Express Transportation ).

London, 3 August 2021:

With the reopening of the Coastal Road section between Misrata and Sirte last Friday (30 July),

the state General Company for Express (passenger) Transportation announced the start of its normal direct route service to Benghazi, eastern Libya and on to Egypt.

Prior to the Khalifa Hafter war on Tripoli and the closure of the Coastal Road in 2019, the bus journey from Tripoli to Benghazi took about 11 hours for the 1,026 km journey. However, taking the circuitous route during the Coastal Road closure the bus trip was taking about 21 hours for the 1,727 km trip.
