London, 29 May 2018:

The Faiez Serraj-led Presidency Council (PC) welcomed yesterday’s call by the Supreme Judicial Council to the Attorney General to investigate corruption allegations made in the Audit Bureau’s 2017 Annual Report issued last week.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Presidency Council said that it supported the revelation of the facts and the referral of those proven to have committed financial irregularities to the judiciary.

Meanwhile, the Presidency Council assured of its stand for the principle of transparency, integrity and accountability and of its efforts to counter corruption.

It expressed its confidence in the Supreme Judicial Council in its ability to discover the facts and its ability not to get caught up in baseless accusations.

Finally, it announced that its relevant department was studying the 2017 Annual Report and that it will present its response through the legally prescribed channels.
