The Official Spokesperson of the House of Representatives (HoR) reported yesterday that the Speaker of the HoR, Al-Salheen Abdel-Nabi, sent an official letter on Thursday to the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya‎ and his Deputy, regarding the continuation of the (previous) Speaker of the House of Representatives' Decision No. (15) of 2024, related to the imposition of a tax on the official exchange rate of foreign currencies.‎

‎The Spokesperson explained that the correspondence confirmed that ‘‘the fourth article of the decision has set its validity period until December 31, 2024, and that the continuation of the application of its provisions after this date, without a new legal basis, is considered a violation of the provisions of the law and lacks a legal basis’’.‎

‎He added that the Speaker of the House of Representatives called on the Governor and Deputy of the Central Bank of Libya to take the necessary urgent measures to stop and cancel any increase in the official exchange rate, whenever it is based on the aforementioned decision.‎

‎Belhaq stressed that this correspondence comes within the framework of the House of Representatives' follow-up on the extent of compliance with the legislation and decisions in force, and to ensure that financial measures do not continue to be applied after the expiry of the legal period specified for them.‎
