The Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Environment reported today the conclusion of its "Readiness Libya 2" project— implemented in collaboration with the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS).

The project aimed to build national and institutional capacities and mobilize climate finance in Libya.

It contributed to the development of several frameworks and tools, including the National Climate Change Framework, a monitoring and evaluation system, and Libya’s Green Climate Fund (GCF) Country Programme, which serves as a reference for defining national priorities regarding bankable climate investments and projects.

Transitioning to implementation of priority investment projects
Discussions emphasized the importance of transitioning from the development of frameworks and strategies to the implementation of priority investment projects, as well as enhancing private sector engagement and leveraging available climate finance opportunities.

Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Environment and the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) to foster cooperation in the areas of climate and climate finance during the upcoming phase.
