Ministry of Agriculture signs Veterinary Health Certificate Agreement with Romania for meat and livestock imports

Following their meeting and deliberations in Bucharest on 7 October, Libya’s Tripoli based Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock announced today that it signed a joint agreement on Veterinary Health Certificates in Vâlcea County, Romania.

The agreement covers the import of live sheep and cattle, as well as sheep and cattle meat, fish, sheep and cattle liver, and poultry meat, serving the mutual interests of both nations and facilitating trade.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock said this comes as part of its ongoing efforts to secure sustainable food supplies and diversify meat sourcing options for the local market,

The signing ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials; the Libyan side was represented by Dr. Mohamed Al-Turki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and Acting Chairman of the National Centre for Animal Health, while the Romanian side was represented by Dr. Alexandru Pociu, Undersecretary of the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and Head of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority.

The Ministry said this significant step establishes clear regulatory and official frameworks to remove obstacles for companies and suppliers and ensure the smooth flow of trade in compliance with the highest health standards and international food safety requirements, thereby meeting the needs of the Libyan market and supporting national food security.
