The Undersecretary of the Libyan Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and Acting Chairman of the National Centre for Animal Health, met last Monday (5 October) in Bucharest with Romanian veterinary authorities.

The discussions focused on mechanisms to facilitate the flow of livestock and meat trade in accordance with international standards.

The meeting was held with the participation of Mr. Mohamed Al-Barouni, Libya’s Ambassador to Romania, and representatives from the Veterinary Quarantine Department of the National Centre for Animal Health.

Representing the Romanian side were the Deputy Head of Veterinary Authorities and senior officials from the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), including Alexandru Nicolae Bociu.

The meeting reviewed the latest epidemiological status of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in Romania and the control measures implemented; both sides emphasized the effectiveness of vaccination, surveillance, and early laboratory diagnosis programmes.

An agreement was reached to establish rigorous sanitary requirements to protect Libya's livestock and prevent disease transmission. It was also agreed to conduct field visits—covering veterinary quarantine sites, reference laboratories, and certified slaughterhouses—and to maintain ongoing coordination, data exchange, and direct communication between the two parties.
