The Misrata Chamber of Commerce held discussions last Wednesday 14 October with the Japanese Ambassador to Libya, Shimura Izuru, regarding prospects for commercial and investment cooperation between the two nations.

The talks, hosted at the Chamber’s Misrata headquarters, focused on opportunities to strengthen partnerships between their respective business communities, paving the way for new investments and the exchange of expertise.

The Chamber hosted the Japanese at its administrative headquarters in Misrata.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador’s accompanying delegation, the Chairman of the Management Committee, Fathi Al-Amin Al-Turki; Management Committee member Ihab Al-Hadi Al-Owaib; and the Director of the Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Department, Yousef Abdul Qader Abu Shaiba.

Al-Turki highlighted the role of the Chamber and the significance of Misrata within Libya’s economic and commercial landscape. He encouraged Japanese companies to explore investment opportunities available in the city and invited Japanese business leaders to visit the Chamber, proposing the exchange of trade delegations to foster direct communication between institutions and enterprises in both countries.

The discussion also covered study programmes offered by the Japanese government—including opportunities for pursuing master’s degrees in Japan—and explored ways to leverage these programmes to develop professional talent and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience.

For his part, the Japanese Ambassador expressed his admiration for the economic and commercial development taking place in Libya as a whole, and in the city of Misrata in particular.

In an exclusive statement to Libya Herald, Fathi Al-Amin, Chairman of the Misrata Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the importance of the visit in strengthening economic and commercial ties with Japan. He highlighted the investment opportunities available in Misrata, noting that such engagement fosters partnerships between companies and business leaders from both nations.

He added that expanding trade and investment cooperation with Japan offers an opportunity to benefit from Japanese expertise and experience, facilitates the exchange of economic delegations, and paves the way for joint projects that serve mutual interests.
