The National Development Agency (NDA) reported yesterday that construction is progressing steadily on the Eastern Electronic Gate along the Sirte–Sokna–Sebha (SSS) international Highway.
Work, it revealed, is advancing on various components—including security offices, an ambulance and emergency station, and an integrated service centre for citizens featuring a mosque, a commercial market, a café, and restrooms—as part of a plan to create a modern gateway that combines security and service functions.
This project is part of a comprehensive plan to construct three modern electronic gates—all sharing the same design and model—at the three entrances to the city of Sirte. These gates aim to strengthen security and service infrastructure while keeping pace with development efforts in accordance with the latest standards.
The SSS Highway
The SSS Road is a major 1,000-kilometer strategic transport corridor being constructed under the supervision of the NDA.
The road connects the northern port city of Sirte (and the Sirte Free Zone) down through Sokna to Sebha in southern Libya. Future extensions are planned toward Chad and Niger to make a major transit trade road and corridor.
The driver behind the project is to transform Sirte into a major commercial transit and logistics hub linking the Mediterranean Sea directly to sub-Saharan Africa.
