Zintan Airport, two-and-a-half hours drive and 184 km southwest of Tripoli, announced yesterday that, as part of the night operation approval procedures, its runway field lighting system was inspected Friday night by a specialized committee from the Civil Aviation Authority and the Airports Authority.
It reported that runway 02-20 witnessed the first experimental night landing under the committee’s supervision, a crucial step to ensure the system’s readiness before granting final approval for the launch of night operations.
The move comes as part of the wider policy of the Tripoli government to develop regional airports, to improve transportation and to decentralise to regions.
