At yesterday’s official launch of the UNDP’s ‘‘Innovation Summer Season’’, a discussion on urban planning took place.

The event (18 to 31 August) is held in partnership with the Centre of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Tripoli

The launch ceremony brought together the President of the University of Tripoli Prof. Khaled Oun, UNDP’s Deputy Resident Representative Mr Mohammed Salih, and representatives from the European Union Delegation, along with a large number of students.

Yesterday’s session featured an in-depth discussion on urban planning and building infrastructure capable of facing climate change. The session is part of the vital topics of the season that aim to provide practical and sustainable solutions to challenges in Libya, the UNDP reported.

The discussion touched on subjects such as sustainable infrastructure, water reuse solutions, adaptive architectural designs for heat resilience, and the integration of renewable energy. Through these discussions, the programme seeks to empower future young leaders to tackle Libya’s environmental challenges.

The UNDP says the event marks the kick-off of a transformative two-week programme of workshops and discussions empowering students to explore climate change action, sustainability, urban resilience, and innovation.

The initiative aims to stimulate students on campus and provide interactive opportunities for students and stakeholders to explore ways of supporting sustainable development in Libya.

By integrating sustainability and innovation into discussions, workshops, and activities, the UNDP says this event aligns with UN global development goals and seeks to address vital issues such as climate action, resource efficiency, and urban resilience

The event is supported by the European Union.
