The Tripoli based Libyan government is sending what American sources have referred to as ‘‘the largest-ever government delegation’’ on an official mission to the United States for ten days, starting 3 September.
The delegation will attend official and preparatory meetings regarding strengthening the economic and investment partnership between Libya and the United States.
The delegation will be participating in a commercial event in Washington DC on 12 September holding meetings with various U.S. Government agencies, organised by AmCham Libya with Hill International acting as the main sponsor.
The delegation will be covering the following seven sectors:
- Oil & Gas
- Renewables
- Electricity
- Infrastructure
- Minerals
- IT
- Healthcare
US participants will have the opportunity to interact directly with the most senior Libyan Government officials and stakeholders in each of these sectors. They will be able to hear about current opportunities for U.S. companies and in key priority projects and present their companies.
The agenda will include group opening and closing sessions as well as seven parallel sector roundtables, allowing for detailed discussions of sector-related projects and one-on-one interactions with Minister-level Libyan Government sector representatives.
U.S. Government agency participation is expected to include:
- U.S. Department of State
- U.S. Department of Commerce
- U.S. Department of Energy
The Libyan delegation is expected to be headed by:
- Acting Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Abdul Sadiq
- Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan Investment Authority Ali Mahmoud Hassan
- Head of the Executive Team for Prime Ministerial Initiatives Mustafa Mohammed Al-Manea
- Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Commercial Affairs Suhail Abu Sheha
- Undersecretary General of the Ministry of Health Mohammed Al-Khouj
- Chairman of the General Authority for Information Abdul Basit Al-Baour
Libyan sources say the delegation will also include:
- Head of the Organisation for the Development of Administrative Centres (ODAC), Sami Al-Abash
- General Manager of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), Abdullah Hamouda
- Chairman of the Board of the Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL), Asil Artima
- Director General of the National Mining Corporation, Faraj Al-Shandouli
- A representative of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), Mohammed Al-Tawati
- A representative of the Cabinet Office, Ali Ibrahim Balaam
- A representative of the Government Communications Department, Youssef Kilan
