The British Embassy in Libya reported yesterday that the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advice yesterday for three cities in Libya – Tripoli, Benghazi and Misrata – to reflect improvements in the security situation.
Previously, it had advised against travelling to Libya entirely. Now, it advises against travel unless absolutely necessary to these cities.
Positive signal of a certain level of stability
Commenting on the updated UK government travel advice to its citizens, the Tripoli based Libyan government said ‘‘This adjustment is a positive signal that there is a certain level of stability in these cities.
The British Foreign Office has included the entire of Libya among the high-risk areas during the past years, as a result of the unstable security situation, and this update is the first partial downgrading of this classification in years.’’
