The Libyan Export Promotion Centre (LEPC) announced yesterday that Libya has won three awards at Egypt’s Al-Ahram International Olive Oil Competition 2025.
The LEPC said 193 samples of olive oil from 20 countries worldwide participated in the competition where Libya’s Zawiya based Farmer Company won gold for its TOOR brand and the Masalata based United Sahel Company won silver.
Both companies are registered in the LEPC’s Exporters’ Register. The LEPC is a major supporter of local production reaching global markets through quality accreditation and support through international exhibitions in targeted markets.
The LEPC said these latest international competition victories by Libyan companies have added to the records of success and the first rankings of Libyan products in terms of quality and high competitiveness.
Presidency of the United Nations International Olive Council
It will be recalled that in November 2024, it was announced that Libya will assume from 1 January 2025 the presidency of the United Nations International Olive Council for one year.
The news came out of the International Olive Council’s 120th session held in Madrid, Spain in which Libya was participating.
Export accreditation
More importantly, during the Madrid International Olive Council’s meeting, Libya was granted the accreditation certificate for sensory and chemical laboratories, thus making Libya among the countries that can grant an accredited certificate for exporting olive oil to all countries of the world.
Libyan olive oil has won several international prizes
It will also be recalled that Libyan olive oils have recently won several international prizes for their quality, including in Miami, Athens, Geneva, Tokyo, Oslo, and Berlin. One Libyan brand, Libico olive oil, is already exporting some quantities to Italy. However, without international accreditation, Libya had been unable to leverage this to export large quantities of its olive oil production.
