A training centre for the border guard service of the Libyan Ministry of Defence was opened in Sabrata yesterday, the European Union in Libya reported.

Commenting on the opening on social media, the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Libya, Nicola Orlando, said ‎”Supporting ‎Libya in managing its borders and conducting search and rescue operations in the desert, subject to human rights standards, is the cornerstone of Libya’s partnership with the EU”.

‎”We are honoured to inaugurate a vital training centre in Sabrata for the Libyan Ministry of Defence’s Border Guards, implemented by ‎‎IOM Libya‎‎ and the Italian Ministry of Interior within the framework of the EU-funded Support to Integrate Border and Migration Management in Libya ‎‎(SIBMMIL)‎‎ programme.”‎

‎”Thanks to continued European support and training on the application of human rights standards led by the IOM, outstanding Libyan officers will continue to save lives, combat human smuggling and address irregular migration issues.”‎
