Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Aldabaiba and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni inaugurated the 30th Libyan Italian Economic Forum at the Tripoli International Fairgrounds today.

During his speech at the opening ceremony, Aldabaiba stressed the importance of strengthening fruitful bilateral cooperation with Italy, which he said has witnessed significant development recently. He announced the return of Italian airlines to operate from Libyan airports starting next December, in addition to the imminent start of work on implementing the new coastal road project, Musaid-Ras Jedir.

Aldabaiba also expressed his happiness with the positive progress in the path of reactivating the friendship and cooperation agreement that has been suspended for 14 years and lifting restrictions on the travel of Italian businessmen to Libya.

In turn, the Libyan government reported that the Italian Prime Minister expressed her pride in the cooperation between Libya and Italy to achieve common goals, stressing Italy’s continued commitment to supporting Libya to achieve economic sustainability, which witnessed a doubling of the volume of trade between the two countries during the years 2022-2023.

Meloni added that her fourth visit to Tripoli is of great importance to strengthening relations between the two countries and reaching the highest levels of successful partnership in all fields.
