Brega Petroleum Marketing Company announced yesterday the reactivation of the supply of a range of fuel products through the main (16 inches diameter) supply pipeline – after a 10-year hiatus.

The pipeline used to be the main supplier of Tripoli’s Airport Road Fuel Depot with petrol.‎ It will now be used for the supply several fuels, including diesel.

The reactivation of the pipeline is timely following the last two weeks of petrol shortages in Libya. The build-up of queues at Tripoli’s petrol stations had led to the suspension by the Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister (Aldabaiba) of the chairman of Brega‎. Brega is the state National Oil Corporation’s (NOC) fuel distribution subsidiary.

‎Brega said coordination was made between the Zawia Depot and Tripoli Fuel Depots to receive the first pipeline shipment of diesel fuel at the Tripoli Fuel Depot, after a halt that lasted for more than 10 years due to technical obstacles.‎

‎It explained that the use of the main line to receive several products increases the quantities transported to the Tripoli Fuel Depot, which contributes to reducing the time and costs associated with trucking, and also reduces the waiting times for tankers to unload.‎
