The Presidency of the House of Representatives (HoR), led by Ageela Salah, announced yesterday that it is continuing with its Resolution No. 25 of 2023, which includes assigning Saddek El-Kaber as Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and Marei Al-Barassi as Deputy Governor.

The HoR announced that with this it is suspending its decision 3 of 2018 assigning Mohamed Abdul Salam Al-Shukri as Governor, due to the lapse of the period of his assignment and his failure to carry out his duties from the date of the issuance of the decision to assign him.‎

180 degrees turn of relationship between El-Kaber and HoR
The announcement by the HoR Presidency reflects the 180 degrees recent turn in relations between the HoR and CBL Governor El-Kaber. The HoR had in previous years sacked El-Kaber.

The announcement also reflects the strained relationship between El-Kaber and the Tripoli based Libyan prime minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, amid reports that the latter is attempting to remove the former – possibly even by force.
