Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced Wednesday that its subsidiary, Ras Lanuf Company, exported from its ethylene plant its first shipment of propylene gas.
The shipment of 6,000 tons, destined to China, is the first after a 12-year hiatus.
The NOC said the export shipment enhances Libya’s position among the petrochemical exporting countries in the world and contributes to the advancement of the national economy.
Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald about the landmark, the General Manager of Petroleum Industries at Ras Lanuf Company, Khaled Juwaili, stated that several tankers entered the Ras Lanuf oil port in order to ship the ethylene plant products and export them to global markets after a stop that lasted for more than 12 years.
Juwaili pointed out that the Ras Lanuf oil port received the tanker “Kalolimnos” on Friday, December 8, which will be loaded with a 6,600 metric tons of propylene gas, heading to China.
It is worth noting that the NOC announced a few months ago that Ras Lanuf Company would resume production at a polyethylene factory after a 12-year hiatus, with a production capacity of 240 thousand tons per day.
Ras Lanuf Oil and Gas Company operated the factory, whose production reached 330 thousand tons annually at the end of last October. This is the first time that the factory has been operated by supplying it with the raw material for ethylene gas through the thermal cracking station in the industrial complex.
