The Spokesman for the Tripoli-based Libyan government led by Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, Mohamed Hamuda, denied today the validity of media reports regarding the use of Al-Khums port for the benefit of foreign military bases.
Hamuda, speaking to camera from the quayside at Khoms port, said the issue of ceding or leasing the Al-Khoms port has not been discussed with any foreign party.
The reaction from the Aldabaiba government came after Libyan media reported widely Turkish media sources allegedly ‘‘close to the Turkish Foreign Ministry’’ saying the military half of Khoms port had been leased to Turkey as a military base.
There were some demonstrations by locals in Khoms against the news.
