Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najla al-Mangoush, together with her accompanying delegation, visited the Iranian capital Tehran yesterday where she met Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
The visit was in response to an official invitation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and was the first visit of a high-level Libyan delegation to Iran in 16 years.
The Libyan government reported that the two sides discussed the mutual steps to be taken to resume diplomatic representation and develop bilateral economic cooperation.
New phase of Arab-Iranian relations
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Libya’s position in support of the initiative of Saudi Arabia, which enjoys the support of Arab states, to start a new phase of Arab-Iranian relations, based on the common interests of the countries and peoples of the region.
The two sides also agreed to resume meetings of the Libyan-Iranian joint committee, develop cooperation in the health and technical fields, encourage exports, cooperate in the industrial field, and exchange official visits.
Mangoush also met with Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi.
