The Media Office of the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) reported yesterday that INTERPOL has cancelled the arrest warrant issued for its chairman Ali Mahmoud.
The arrest warrant had been requested by the Belgian authorities. The LIA had objected to the move, considering the request for the arrest warrant a political move.
The LIA Media Office claimed that Interpol had confirmed that the request of the Belgian authorities does not comply with the rules of Interpol applied in view of the political dimension of this case, and that keeping the data related to the head of the LIA in Interpol data would endanger the neutrality of the organization under Article 3 of the Interpol Constitution.
The LIA Media Office said that the issuance of this decision is part of a series of judicial victories it has achieved in order to protect and preserve its assets.
