At the Prime Minister’s Office and in the presence of the Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, the Chairman of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), Mohamed Al-Mashay, signed yesterday a contract to build the new Zliten gas powered electric generating station.
The power station will be supplied by the Germany’s Siemens and implemented by the consortium of Urbacon Trading and Contracting (part of UCC holding Qatar) and Elsewedy Electric Egypt.
GECOL said the project comes within the framework of the company’s plans to improve the general situation of the national network and enhance production capacity in line with the demand for energy.
The power station, GECOL revealed, consists of 6 units with a total production capacity of 1,044 megawatts, is scheduled to be fast tracked and completed within 26 months.
