The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Hospital Affairs, Saad Eddin Abdel -Wakil, discussed last Tuesday with several Libyan experts residing in Germany and registered with the Libyan German Scientific Council, enhancing cooperation, and raising the level of health services in Libya.

Through the virtual meeting, it was agreed that the Libyan-German Scientific Council would provide assistant experts to the Ministry of Health in the field of digital transformation and training programmes at home and abroad, and to localize the treatment inside Libya.

These would be through surgeries inside hospitals and medical centres deployed east and south of the country, the western mountain and the western region, in a number of specialties such as heart and neurosurgery and blood vessels.

Personal Social Responsibility: Libyans abroad giving back to the state that funded their education
The Health Ministry said the meeting comes in line with the initiative launched by the Deputy Prime Minister / Acting Minister of Health, Ramadan Abu Janah, regarding the invitation of Libyan doctors residing abroad to contribute to the Libyan national programmes for treatment inside in various disciplines.

The initiative under the title ‘‘Almsgiving on your education is volunteering – Participate in the treatment of your compatriots’’ is based on two principles. The first is the Islamic Zakat (almsgiving) principle of giving back to those less better off. The second is based on the old Qaddafi-era regulation that stipulates that Libyan students sent on a state scholarships abroad must return and work for the state for a set number of years in repayment of their scholarship.
