The EU Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM) is to hold a two-day conference in Tunis on cross-border cooperation between Libya and the Sahel Countries.

Commenting on the event on its Facebook page, the EU said that it has a strategic interest in promoting cross-border cooperation between Libya and the Sahel countries, as an effective way to foster regional security, stability, and sustainable development.

It said the EU is engaged in the area with numerous initiatives and projects both at national and regional level and this two-day high-level conference testifies the relevance of an integrated and regional approach, particularly in addressing border-related issues.

EUBAM Head of Mission, Natalina Cea said “The conference aims at supporting regional security and stability, by enhancing cross-border cooperation in the fight against border crimes, including terrorism and organized crime. Political and technical delegations from Libya and the Sahel countries, EU and its Member States as well as from international organizations will attend the conference.’’
