Five people, including civilians and a young girl, died overnight and 13 others were injured in clashes between state-recognized militias in the western city of Zawia.
The clashes included the use of medium and heavy weapons. Local social and political leaders succeeded eventually in securing a ceasefire. The clashes were associated with an arrest thought to be connected to criminal activity. The Zawia Security Directorate was reported to be one of the sides in the clashes.
The clashes led to the closure of a main Zawia-Tripoli road, forcing locals to use alternative routes out of the city.
