The head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, met at his Tripoli headquarters with the private sector Libyan Clinics Union yesterday.
The Audit Bureau reported that the meeting came in the context of following up on the health sector, striving towards the optimal use of public funds allocated to the sector, and ensuring its proper management in a manner that achieves the desired benefit from it.
The Audit Bureau said the meeting dealt with the role of the private health sector in localising treatment within Libya to limit the waste of money for treatment abroad, which has burdened the state and the citizen.
This comes, it added, according to its monitoring and follow-up, especially the recent follow-up during its visit to Egypt.
The Audit Bureau reported that the meeting concluded by suggesting ways and mechanisms to achieve this end where Shakshak stressed that these proposals will make their way to discussion with the Ministry of Health and the relevant parties.
Meanwhile, the Audit Bureau said the current situation requires that private clinics continue to stand by citizens and directly receive cases. Several clinics had refused to take on any more patients referred by the state in view of outstanding debts. Other clinics had also refused to take on Coronavirus patients due to shortages in PPE and medicines etc.
Outstanding debts to private sector clinics
In return, the Audit Bureau vowed to address the competent authorities to urge them to address the issue of outstanding debts and assume their responsibilities and proposing an initiative to allocate an independent account to pay these debts and another account to pay for new transactions.
Libyan Clinics Union welcomes proposal and pledges support
The Audit Bureau reported that the Libyan Clinics Union welcomed this proposal and pledged full and absolute cooperation in this field, and the meeting concluded with setting another date to discuss the proposed mechanisms with all experts and relevant parties to ensure the adoption and implementation of an effective and feasible strategic plan that ends with the settlement of treatment at home.
