London, 8 July 2021:

GECOL announced yesterday that for the first time and with a 100 percent national cadre, the operational tests of the first gas unit at the Ubari station succeeded and reached the synchronization speed.

It said that the unit will enter the electrical network with a production capacity of 165 megawatts.

It reminded that work on the Ubari station project has been suspended since 2017 due to the departure of the foreign executing company.

However, it is reported that what is now holding the distribution of Ubari’s generated capacity across the network is that some locals are refusing to allow electricity pylons to be erected on their land for high voltage wires to be connected to the national network.
