London, 9 June 2021:
U.S. Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, spoke with Deputy Libyan Prime Minister Ramadan Abujnah yesterday to discuss security, military unification, national reconciliation, and preparations for elections in Libya, the embassy reported yesterday.
It reported that Ambassador Norland condemned the June 6 terrorist attack in Sebha, expressed condolences to the victims’ families, and reaffirmed U.S. support for the Libyan government’s ongoing efforts to improve security in the south, unify the country’s military forces, increase control over the southern border region, and safeguard Libyan sovereignty.
Noting that these would be topics at the upcoming Berlin Ministerial meeting, the Embassy reported that Norland welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister’s firm commitment to achieving sustainable reconciliation throughout the country, and they both agreed on the necessity of holding national elections as scheduled on December 24.
