London, 19 May 2021:

As part of ongoing consultations with Libyan interlocutors, UNSMIL reported Assistant Secretary-General and UNSMIL Coordinator Raisedon Zenenga met virtually yesterday with representatives of civil society from all regions of Libya.

Zenenga conveyed UNSMIL’s interest to hear directly from Libyans on national priorities and on how best the UN can help sustain Libya’s positive trajectory. He briefed participants on UNSMIL’s efforts to support progress on the political, security and economic tracks.

UNSMIL also reported that they called for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya without further delay, stressed the need to improve living conditions of the Libyan people and the need to foster national reconciliation to achieve lasting peace and stability.

UNSMIL said Zenenga will continue engagement with other interlocutors in the coming days.
