Libya and Italy discussed health cooperation yesterday ahead of the visit by Italian prime minister Mario Draghi to Tripoli today.
The discussion took place between Libya’s Minister of Health Ali Zanati at his Tripoli office and Italian ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi.
The Health Minister emphasized the depth of relations between Libya and Italy, government, and people, and praised the efforts made in treating patients in the past and stressed the importance of cooperation between the Libyan Ministry of Health and its counterpart from the Italian side.
In talking about the extent of cooperation between the two sides in terms of localizing treatment at home through the twinning of several major hospitals with major Italian hospitals, and in the same context, the Minister affirmed the support for training programmes for medical personnel within the framework of cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Ambassador Grimaldi stressed that Libya means a lot to Libya and assured of its full support for the health aspect in Libya. He thanked Libya for sending six doctors during the beginning of the pandemic to Italy. ‘‘We will not forget this, and the Italian people will not forget this when the world did not know what was happening as a result of this epidemic. “, he was quoted saying by the Ministry.
The Ministry also stressed its thanks for the health support provided by Italy to through humanitarian organizations operating in Libya, and stressed that there are many agreements that we hope will be activated.
