At a signing ceremony in Zawia, the launch of the marine and economic study for the construction of the Zawia Commercial Port was agreed on Sunday.
After the signing ceremony, the delegation made up of Libya and local government, business and relevant stakeholders, the attendees moved to the site of the planned port at the small Dila fishing port east of the city.
Zawia Local Council, the hosts, stressed the economic and commercial importance of the proposed new Commercial Port which it said would contribute to solving many economic problems and bottlenecks.
The attending Acting Libyan Minister of Local Government confirmed his government’s support for the project.
No further details about the proposed port were available. The project is at a different site to the local oil refinery port.
