London, 25 February 2021:
The U.S. Embassy reported yesterday that its Ambassador Richard Norland spoke with House of Representatives (HoR) Speaker Ageela Saleh yesterday to emphasize the importance that the HoR convenes to give a vote of confidence on the new executive authority (Presidency Council and Government of National Unity) as soon as possible.
It reported that Saleh said he shared the view that the HoR should assume its responsibility in this regard, noting that the government should respect the outcomes of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) and the Cairo Declaration.
The Embassy statement said the U.S. recognizes that the vote of confidence of the HoR is an important step toward the holding of elections in December of this year.
