London, 28 January 2021:
The number of officially registered Libyan jobseekers at the end of 2020 increased by 14 percent to 370,293, the Tripoli Labour Ministry reported today.
The number of jobseekers holding correct National ID Numbers was 279,077, while the number of those with incorrect or non-conforming National ID Numbers was 91,216.
In theory, state-sector salaries should only be paid to those holding a valid National ID Number.
The number of female jobseekers was 57 percent, and the number of males was 43 percent.
The percentage of qualified jobseekers was 58 percent while the unqualified was 42 percent.
The Ministry reported that the number of jobseekers in the western region rose to 161,083, which represents the largest number of those seeking jobs. The eastern region recorded 94,173 jobseekers, while the central region recorded 76,686, and the southern region recorded 47,351 jobseekers.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation called on jobseekers last September to register in 109 offices throughout Libya in response to government decree 567/2020. This decree came in response to demonstrations by youth.
