London, 26 June 2020:
With the country’s Coronavirus cases still increasing, Libya’s Tripoli-based government extended the country’s (west and south) 8pm to 6am curfew for another ten days from tomorrow – taking it to 7 July.
Yesterday, Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 28 new positive Coronavirus cases, taking the total to 698 with 140 recoveries and 18 deaths.
The government also imposed a 24-hour weekend ban for the second weekend running to reduce socialising. Movement between cities is also prohibited.
Sources in Tripoli report that people are exhibiting curfew fatigue and are generally no longer respecting social distancing rules nor are they wearing masks in public. The continuing acute power cuts of up to 10 hours per day have made it difficult for people to lock themselves in during Libya’s stifling summer heat. Many have headed to the beaches.
