London, 29 March 2020:
Libya’s internationally recognized government today extended the curfew for the western region as well as introducing further restrictive measures to fight the country’s outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-19).
The initial curfew had gone into effect on 22 March. Libya’s eastern region implements its own measures and curfew.
The new curfew starts at 2 pm and ends at 7 am. The new measures also ban travel between cities – except for vital activities – and reduces official working hours to start from 9 am and end at 12 pm.
The measures go into effect tomorrow.
The measures come as Libya announced five more new Coronavirus cases today, bringing the total to eight.
Meanwhile despite calls by the international community for a humanitarian pause to fight the pandemic, fighting has continued overnight at an increased rate on multiple fronts across the Greater Tripoli battlefront.
The oil stoppage started in January also continues.
