London, 13 February 2020:
The internationally recognized Libyan government launched its system on Tuesday to enable Libyan citizens abroad to be able to receive passports and birth certificates. The system should work in 22 countries initially, the Tripoli based Ministry of Interior said.
It must be recalled, however, that this is not the first time that successive Libyan governments have claimed that their citizens can be issued a new blue post Qaddafi era passport abroad.
Many countries no longer accept the old ‘green’ passports from the time of Qaddafi. These are filled in by hand and are seen as a high counterfeit risk.
