Lugano, 6 April 2018:
A Tripoli court cleared Saadi Qaddafi, one of the sons of former dictator Muamar Qaddafi, of charges of murder against a former footballer and coach.
Saadi had been accused of the murder of former footballer and coach of Tripoli’s Al-Ittihad football club Bashir Al-Rayani in 2005.
During Libya’s 2011 revolution, Saadi had been in hiding in Niger and was later extradited back to Libya in March 2014. He is still being tried for alleged involvement in the 2011 crackdown against the revolt that led to some civilian deaths.
Meanwhile, speaking to local Libyan media, Rayani’s son Ali, has denounced the ruling announced on Tuesday, and vowed to get justice for his late father.
