London, 25 April 2018:

The Libyan owned hotel, Laico Tunis, opened on Monday after years of refurbishment. The hotel was initially opened by the Tunisian Minister of Tourism on Monday followed by a second opening by Faiez Serraj.

The hotel was in the middle of a major refurbishment operation when the 2011 Arab Spring revolution interrupted operations and delaying its reopening until 2018.

The hotel, formerly known as Abu Nawas, has been rebranded as a five-star hotel under the abbreviation of its holding company, the Libyan African Investment Company (LAICO). Its openings are seen as ‘‘soft openings’’ as the hotel wishes to slowly raise its standard to an international five-star hotel.
