Tunis, 11 December 2017:
A young boy has become the first Libyan in history to win the Africa Youth Chess Championship in the under 12s category.
On Sunday, Yusuf Alhassadi took the trophy in Cairo after battling it out with players from across Africa at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Giza.
Alhassadi, the sole Libyan representative, beat Algerians Safin Benyahia and Wassel Bousmaha to first place. Players were given a maximum of 90 minutes for the game and 30 seconds per move.
Yusuf, accompanied by his father, was later congratulated by Presidency Council head Faiez Serraj.
