Cairo, 25 September 2017:
Fed up with being forced to bribe their way through militia roadblocks or face long delays on the route from Tripoli to Tunisia, truckers in Abu Issa have held a protest.
The drivers from the town to the west of Zawia complained that they were harassed regularly along the road to Ras Jedir on the frontier.
If they did not pay “fees” at checkpoints on the road, they were turned back or held up. This included at the border itself where the truckers claimed that unless they were prepared to pay, they were not able enter Tunisia.
